dvertised
as “Bon Extrait d’Absinthe” in
a 1769 newspaper, the two Henriod sisters from Neuchatel, Switzerland
unleashed their elixir of alcohol, wormwood, aniseed, lemon balm, and
other herbs upon the world. This cure-all was later distributed by Dr.
Pierre Ordinaire as "La Fée Verte" or "The Green
Fairy".
Dr.
Ordinaire captured the attention of a gentleman named Major Dubied
who saw absinthe
not just as a tonic but as an aperitif. Dubied purchased the original
formula from the Henriod sisters at the end of the 18th century
and began large scale production.
As
it took two sisters to start a movement, it will
take two sisters to reawaken
a
revolution.
